Hundreds of Orlando city jobs will soon be lost.
The City of Orlando recently announced its plan to cut 342 jobs, or about 10 percent of its total workforce. The cuts will result in up to $34 million in cost savings. Included in the cuts will be more than 46 firefighters and 15 police officers. The cuts are expected to take place October 2, according to an article by the Orlando Business Journal.
The cuts will be reached by eliminating 222 filled positions and 120 vacant positions, as well as freezing salaries of all appointed officials, reducing funding for community groups by 12 percent and cutting department budgets by 12 percent.
