A new superstore will help create hundreds of Florida retail jobs.
Sam’s Club recently announced that it plans to open a new store this July in the City of Cocoa, which is located on Florida’s Space Coast. That store will help create 220 new jobs. The 136,447-square-foot store was built with environmentally-friendly materials and energy-efficient fixtures.
According to an article by the Orlando Business Journal, the store is expected to carry a wide variety of merchandise and offer customers a pharmacy, optical department, fuel station, digital photo center and tire and battery installation center.
This is the 10th Sam’s Club located in central Florida. Sam’s Club is a division of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., which is based in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Thew new jobs could help Florida’s declining economy, which seems to consistently experience an increasing unemployment rate and loss of jobs. During May, the state’s unemployment rate increased from 9.7 percent to 10.2 percent, which is higher than the national unemployment rate of 9.4 percent.
Florida had a total non-farm employment of 7.389,100 workers during May, according to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 7,450,100 workers during April and a 5.3 percent decrease from last year.
In particular, the state’s professional and business services industry employed 1,064,200 workers during May, down from 1,076,100 workers during April and an 8 percent decrease from last year.
