Those looking for Florida jobs (Click here) last month probably had more luck if they were using online resources.
The Conference Board recently reported that Florida was one of several states to see strong gains in online job demand during August. Demand in the state increased from 15,700 to 181,400 jobs online. That follows a 4,400 decrease during July.
Throughout the country, online advertised vacancies increased by 169,000 during August. Demand has increased by 300,000 since April.
“The August increase is good news showing what we hope will be a continued improvement in job demand this fall,” Gad Levanon, senior economist with the Conference Board, said.
However, the gap between the number of unemployed workers and the number of advertised vacancies remains at about 11 million, with more than four people unemployed for every advertised job vacancy listed.
The following industries saw increases in online job listings during August:
- Healthcare practitioners and technical occupation openings went from 52,700 to 574,400
- Management occupation listings went from 18,900 to 431,600
- Computer and mathematical science positions went from 8,800 to 406,80
- Sales and related occupation openings went from 6,200 to 382,100
- Office and administrative support listings rose from 7,400 to 347,100
Only two of the top 10 occupation categories saw decreases in online job openings during August. Business and financial operations listings declined 2,100 to 174,900 and arts, design, entertainment, sports and media listings declined 1,100 to 100,800. Job demand for architecture and engineering was unchanged at 117,700 listings.
