Several workers will soon see Florida job cuts.
Aramark Facility Services, located in Tampa, recently announced that it will lay off 82 employees. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice posted by the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation, the layoffs were scheduled to take place this week.
Aramark Corp., headquartered in Philadelphia, provides food services, facilities management and uniform and career apparel for schools, healthcare organizations, stadiums, arenas and other businesses. According to an article by the Tampa Bay Business Journal, the company currently has about 260,000 employees in 22 countries.
The company’s Florida branch focuses on facility management, operations and maintenance programs for office buildings, correctional facilities, manufacturing and industrial plants and other facilities.
The job cuts will only add to the Tampa area’s declining economy. During June, the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area saw its unemployment rate increase from 10.7 percent to 11.1 percent, which is higher than the national unemployment rate of 9.5 percent.
The area had a total non-farm employment of 1,164,300 workers during June, according to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 1,777,900 workers during May and a 4.5 percent decrease from last year.
The State of Florida as a whole saw its unemployment rate increase from 10.3 percent to 10.6 percent during June. The state had a total non-farm employment of 7,379,400 workers during the month, down from 7,399,300 workers during May and a 5.1 percent decrease from last year.
