Electric Vehicle Plant Would Create Florida Jobs

A focus on new technology cold result in the creation of new Florida jobs.

A new electric car plant planning to locate in Century, Florida, could create up to 1,000 new Florida jobs. The Escambia County Commission is expected to soon look into an ordinance in support of the project, which would initially bring 250 jobs to Century, according to an article by NorthEscambia.

“The electric car assembly plant is planned for the Century Industrial Park,” Larry Newsom, director of Escambia County’s industrial development effort, said in the article. “The details are still being worked out, but the resolution in support of the project is needed next week so the state can provide the company with a grant.”

The plant is being developed under the name LHS EZ-Concept. LHS Companies, located in Pensacola, Florida and owned by Jay Patel, is heading the project. LHS operates many hotels, including a Howard Johnson, Days Inn and Ramada, in Pensacola and Gulf Shores.

The chargers for the vehicles are expected to be manufactured in Fort Payne, Alabama.
“But Mr. Patel’s intentions are to try to bring all of that back into Escambia County,” Escambia County Administrator Bob McLaughlin said in the article.. “In the meantime, he will also have his corporate headquarters for the electric car company also located in Escambia County. That’s what the concept is and how he plans to proceed.”

The project initially calls for the production of 150 cars per month. The plant is expected to employee about 250 people to begin with, with an eventual employment of 1,100 to 1,200 within five years.
