A Florida jail that has suspended ten Osceola officers may soon be hiring for corrections officer jobs in Florida if the men end up fired.
Apparently the ten men did not tell the truth on their applications. Ten were suspended Wednesday, and three more on Friday.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has criticized the jail for what it has deemed as ‘weak hiring practices.’
The men were all brought on without an extensive background check, something that one would think would be mandatory when you’re dealing with people protecting or guarding inmates. (more…)

While many grocery stores have been cutting back in this economy and eliminating jobs like baggers, supermarket chain Aldi is doing the exact opposite and is actually adding food service jobs in Florida.
In fact, they held a hiring event recently in Orlando to advertise and interview for jobs.
Hundreds of eager job seekers lined up for the chance to get an interview for a number of food service openings, including cashiers, baggers, and deli positions. Unfortunately the store usually only employs a small amount of people, about 15 employees per store. That, along with low-cost, generic brands and food in bulk allow them to keep costs down substantially. They stores are a big draw for both low-income and middle-income families because of their quality food and low prices.
Aldi also wants to hire store manager trainees, managers, and part and full-time cashiers.
Managers make $20 an hour, while cashiers make $20 - not a bad payday, especially for a youngster who needs a part-time job. What’s even more, part-time employers, or those who works 20 hours a week or more, will be eligible for benefits. Full-time employees are automatically offered benefits.
Aldi opened it first store in Central Florida in 2008. Despite the economy, the company has since grown to more than 35 stores across the area. Nine more stores are on the way over the next few months.

Beech Nut, a maker and processor of baby foods, has opened a new plant, which will create many new administrative jobs in Florida. For more information, click here.
According to Fox23News.com, every seat in the house was full for the grand opening of the new Beech Nut processing plant and headquarters in Florida.
“Today is a great day for the Mohawk Valley, the Capital Region and upstate New York,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer. “And it’s because of a four-letter word: jobs.”
At one point, the long-time Canajoharie company considered moving out of state. But with help from lawmakers, Beech Nut decided to stay in Montgomery County, heading to the nearby town of Florida.
All Canajoharie employees were offered jobs at the new plant. More than 350 accepted.
“I’ve heard good news from people saying I’ve got a new job down here and it’s wonderful,” said Canajoharie resident Esther Simpson.
“I have a lot of relatives that work there and they’re very happy they could keep their jobs,” said Canajoharie resident Sheila Hearn.
On top of those jobs, Beech Nut president Jim Schneider says the baby food manufacturer will be adding 135 new positions.
“We want to be good corporate neighbors and I think the best workforce is here in our backyard,” Schneider says.
“Manufacturing is not dead,” says Congressman Paul Tonko. “It’s alive and well if we invest appropriately.”
Right now production is already underway at the plant for the company’s glass and plastic lines. Soon, food production will make its way over. For those attending today’s event, it’s business that’s more than welcome.
“Beech Nut has been in Canajoharie more than a hundred years,” says Florida resident Chris Fernandez. “It’s nice to see them stay in Montgomery County.”
Schneider says the goal is to have all of the production moved from the Canajoharie site to the Florida plant by September.
