Store hires for food service jobs in Florida

Friday, November 18th, 2011

HoneyBaked Ham, famous for its sweet baked hams, said this week it is hiring for its food service jobs in Florida, among other locales.

The company will ramp up hiring to recruit 6,300 people nationwide. HoneyBaked’s Georgia Division, with approximately 300 stores across the US, will hire 4,100 seasonal employees through January 1, 2012.

The store will be specifically hiring for seasonal jobs in Tampa.

Personnel needs at stores during the holiday season support a major operation to prepare and distribute HoneyBaked’s products, as well as to ramp up frontline customer sales at over 400 stores nationwide.

Within the Georgia Division, metropolitan Atlanta HoneyBaked corporate stores will account for nearly 700 new hires with Birmingham, Denver, Greensboro, Knoxville, Memphis, Nashville, New Orleans, St. Louis and Tampa each adding between 125 -200 seasonal employees.

HoneyBaked store operators have selective standards in hiring workers suited to uphold a family legacy begun by company founder Harry J. Hoenselaar over 50 years and 400 stores ago. As a result, HoneyBaked attracts seasonal employees who return annually to call HoneyBaked stores their home for the holiday season.

“HoneyBaked customers are extremely loyal, but uncompromising, and do not settle for anything less than the best,” said Maggie DeCan, HoneyBaked Chief Operating Officer. “As a member of the HoneyBaked team, we are keepers of a brand promise that has very high expectations attached to it. Our customers come to us when they are facing an occasion that calls for specialness,” said DeCan. “We go to great lengths to hire a holiday team that respects, understands and delivers the HoneyBaked promise.”

McDonald’s plays big part in creating Florida food service jobs

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

After the much-publicized hiring day, held on April 19, fast food giant McDonald’s reaped the benefits, hiring hundreds for food service jobs in Florida.

In Florida, this is good news mixed with bad news, because an increase of high-wage jobs would be preferable to some job market experts, as opposed to low-wage jobs that McDonald’s offers.

But according to a blog on Miami Herald, some decent-paying jobs (just under $1,000 a week, a little above the South Florida average of $853) are growing, too. Those are doctors offices (officially, ambulatory care), local government (yes, growing despite all the headlines about belt-tightening) and transportation and warehousing (trade is doing well). Florida jobs are decreasing, which is reflected in the numbers released Friday by the state labor department. Florida’s unemployment rate was 11.8 percent in December, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous month, and the highest rate since 1975.

The Miami Herald pointed to Chick-Fil-A as an example of how desperate job seekers are becoming. According to the Herald, the new Chick-fil-A restaurant in Miami Lakes opened this week with a crew of carefully selected workers.

“We had about 6,000 applications for 65 jobs,” said Tony Sampayo, the fast-food restaurant’s owner. “It has been great. We ended up with a really good team.”
