Legoland Creates Florida Jobs

Legoland Florida, an amusement park coined after the toys, is slated to open in Winter Haven in 2011 and is expected to create hundreds of Florida jobs (click here).

The theme park has opened a Web site to list job opportunities and provide other information at legoland floridaresort.com.

Florida Jobs Cut at Disney

One of the world’s most notable companies is cutting jobs in Florida. Click here to find job resources.

Disney recently announced its plans to cut an additional 1,900 Florida jobs. The company’s Central Florida location will cut 1,400 jobs, with 500 coming from the elimination of vacant positions. Disney employs 62,000 workers and the job cuts so far total about 2 percent of the company’s workforce.

According to an article by Citrus Daily, no jobs were deemed safe within the company, which said everything from backstage jobs to unneeded management positions could be lost. However, the company said guests of Walt Disney World shouldn’t be effected by the layoffs.

Florida Entertainment Jobs Strengthen Economy

Florida entertainment jobs are a big help to the state’s economy.

A recent press release from the State of Florida reported that the state’s film and entertainment industry create 207,000 industry and related jobs and bring in $17.9 billion each year.

Gov. Charlie Crist recently met with Florida Film Commissioner Lucia Fishburne and other industry leaders to discuss the importance of the entertainment industry. The entertainment industry is projected to add jobs faster than any other industry in Florida.

Revitalizing the Music Industry Could Create More Florida Jobs

The music industry may soon be creating more jobs in Florida.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Florida is considered a home state for the music industry, with 10,258 people employed in the core music industry and 47,911 people employed in jobs directly and indirectly related to the industry. Also, South Florida is considered a gateway to Latin American music. Four major music labels have offices in Florida, with all of them basing Latin branches on South Beach in Miami Beach.

According to an article from the State of Florida, Governor Charlie Crist recently announced a Music Industry Recording Task Force would be created in an effort to strengthen Florida’s economy. The task force will be under the direction of the Office of Film and Entertainment within the Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development. The task force will identify issues impacting the state’s music recording industry and help develop recommendations regarding strategies to strengthen and expand the current industry.
