While many grocery stores have been cutting back in this economy and eliminating jobs like baggers, supermarket chain Aldi is doing the exact opposite and is actually adding food service jobs in Florida.
In fact, they held a hiring event recently in Orlando to advertise and interview for jobs.
Hundreds of eager job seekers lined up for the chance to get an interview for a number of food service openings, including cashiers, baggers, and deli positions. Unfortunately the store usually only employs a small amount of people, about 15 employees per store. That, along with low-cost, generic brands and food in bulk allow them to keep costs down substantially. They stores are a big draw for both low-income and middle-income families because of their quality food and low prices.
Aldi also wants to hire store manager trainees, managers, and part and full-time cashiers.
Managers make $20 an hour, while cashiers make $20 - not a bad payday, especially for a youngster who needs a part-time job. What’s even more, part-time employers, or those who works 20 hours a week or more, will be eligible for benefits. Full-time employees are automatically offered benefits.
Aldi opened it first store in Central Florida in 2008. Despite the economy, the company has since grown to more than 35 stores across the area. Nine more stores are on the way over the next few months.
