Florida Medical Jobs Expanding

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Two area hospitals are expanding and helping to create Florida medical jobs.

Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach and Florida Hospital’s Memorial Medical center in Ormond Beach are already two of the area’s biggest employers, but both are planning expansions that will create several new jobs, according to an article by WFTV. Florida Hospital’s Memorial Medical center includes 12 stories, 277 beds and all-private rooms on a 135-acre spot. The center, which has been in the making for nine years, will open in July. The new facility will help to create 100 new jobs. The hospital expects to see rapid growth in its emergency department and surgical suites.

The DOT delayed the project last year because it was unsure whether or not the stat would charge property taxes on the land. Because the state doesn’t have money to build the road, it wants to hire a private contractor to build and maintain it. Costs would be recovered by charging tolls.
